the aerialist who started in a wheelchair looks at the aerialist who finished in a wheelchair and says

whenever someone says inspiring!
I think you mean sexy
only lately I have stopped thinking it and started to speak it
opening my mouth            pouring out my thoughts the way my breath flows out with a gasp

when I come

the way my breath flows out with a gasp          when my boxing coach hits hard
the way my breath flows in around cock           and pussy and chocolate
the way their breath flows in with a gasp when they say inspiring! which means

sit in this box because I am comfortable with you there

the way their breath flows in with a gasp when I say

sexy which points out
there is a pussy in this chair, a particularly succulent one. But saying

sexy--you mean sexy--is better than my eight-year-old self screaming
FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU
and better than my now self saying

fuck you

and it probably makes me more friends than fuck you which lets them put me in the box of

it's so sad she's angry because she's so sad
and I would have to waste a lot of time explaining that no

the high counters of the post office
London's lack of curb cuts
airline porters who want to check my chair and push me in their chair
make me angry

my marriage makes me sad

you--you--just make me tired.

the aerialist who started in a wheelchair looks at the aerialist who finished in a wheelchair             (right now she doesn't get it              right now this year is really just a dream and any minute now any minute now any minute

                now

she will wake up

                please)

the aerialist who started in a wheelchair shakes her head and says

Let's work on climbs.

Thanks! Yeah, I should maybe write a whole profile of Erin (pictured), she's pretty amazing. Both the women are real, but I think the other lady is still in a private stage of her story.

I first met Erin when I was teaching an aerial silks workshop in Ontario, and the other teacher and I heard this sound coming from the stairwell--the studio was on the second floor, with a long single flight of stairs leading up to it--and we went and peeked out the door, and there was Erin, crawling upstairs and pulling her chair behind her. I said, "Need a hand?" and she snapped out, "I've got it."

I told her in the workshop that we'd figure out variations for anything that wasn't physically possible, and she should holler if she needed more help. She turned out to be amazing, tremendous upper body strength, and we came up with some cool moves that capitalized on her comparatively lightweight lower body. Now she performs semi-professionally! And she's a super writer, too. Professionally, she's a therapist, but she's focusing on performing and writing right now in NYC.

What an unusual piece about an unusual person!

it's so sad she's angry because she's so sad
The trap, always, of people when they are pitied rather than respected.

right now this year is really just a dream and any minute now any minute now any minute
now
she will wake up
please)

And what a great contrast between the woman who has moved forward and the one who is so desperately trying to turn back.

Thank you - I'm really glad you got that out of it.

- copy-pasted from another comment because I think you would also find this interesting -

goshdangit this is just bloody 110% awesome.

Following @pinterestfake on Twitter has definitely ruined me on "inspiring" also, but that seems completely stupid to mention in context of this.

Thanks for asking, I really appreciate it! I went back into shows last weekend, and thought the Idol deadline was Monday, so I figured on LJ silence for a few days while I got the circus up and running again :) So I'm out of Idol for the missed deadline (oops!) and haven't had a minute to update due to performing!

So yes, I'm OK and in transit and wondering a lot about what comes next in my life :)
