Planting a Seed (India)

I'm now based in Dubai, but will be traveling in and out throughout the year. I'm also only 2 hours from India.

For some time now, I've been kicking around the idea of leading a guided trip, for primarily or entirely women. For women who would love to go to India...but don't want to go alone the first time...but package tours whisking them from monument to monument are not their thing.

There would likely be street food, temples, bazaars, saree-wearing, a village visit, some big-city art galleries, lots of rickshaw rides, and a workshop with Indian women writers.

It will likely take place this coming November, when it's not so freaking hot, but hot enough that people who live in, say, Minneapolis, will be glad to get some sun. Probably for 10 days--weekend, week, weekend--and 3-4 cities. Few enough that we can see them as more than monument-hoppers.

It will likely cost $1900-2500, including airfare and decent but not lavish hotels. Food is cheap. Souvenirs are cheap. And I'll tell you how to feel good about not giving to kid beggars and we'll find a legit charity to make a donation to salve our non-beggar-giving souls.

So I'll put together more details as the time comes closer, and I'll be exploring destinations throughout the summer. But if this sort of appeals to you, maybe plant that seed and think about it :)

That's actually kind of how I wish I had seen India the first time, instead of spending it frustrated and trying to break out of the touristy confines of my honeymoon tour.

...maybe? Totally depends on when and where and other things, but if I can make it work with work and life, I would love it.

Oh, this seems like fun. Reminds me that I need to renew my visa to India. Actually, that's a good reminder to anyone traveling there from the US.

Which region are you considering touring? I must admit that some cities are daunting compared to others.

Maybe a bit late to the party, but I just wanted to say that this sounds like a _really_ cool idea!
