Things I Should Be Doing:

Laundry
Calling a friend I haven't talked to in a while
Calling a friend whose dad died
Re-packing
Contracting a gig
Budgeting a gig
Following up with clients
Writing a blog post for The Power Of... series
Writing a goal-setting update blog post
Writing a Friday Wrap-Up blog post
Writing anything
Prepping some submissions
Prepping for a trip to the post office tomorrow
Filling out paperwork to get paid for a radio story

Things I Could Be Doing:

Studying Afrikaans
Looking for house ideas on the internet
Making house sketches and floorplans
Catching up with my flist on LJ
Updating the Starfish Circus website
Working on my writer website
Reading LJ Idol entries and leaving nice comments
Reminding myself that I worked 23 days without a day off, got stuck in SLC airport and then bumped to Vegas and then stayed up too late and it's OK to take a break.

What I Am Doing:

Feeling sorry for myself for being stood up by someone I don't even know.

(This whining, pathetic self-indulgent crap brought to you by our day sponsor, Now I Can't Even Eat Dairy Any More Fuck That Shit)

Awww. :(

What's happened with the dairy? Is that a temporary diet plan, or a new problem that's suddenly become stubborn?

I had gastroenteritis pretty bad ten days ago and the doctor warned me I'd probably be lactose intolerant for at least a few weeks - I think one of the antibiotics killed off all my intestinal flora. It's uncomfortable, definitely the whole bloating, pain under the ribs thing, and I LOVE DAIRY. I am the yogurt queen! I have a little coffee in my milk! I eat cereal for breakfast! Except now I don't. But it's probably a good diet thing right now anyway, I eat way too much dairy normally. Sigh.

I'm glad it's temporary, but I feel your frustration. I eat yogurt and cottage cheese almost every day, and I remember how irksome it was just to space meals away from an antiobiotic I was taking last fall. I had to switch to morning oatmeal, because there was no way to space out the other meds and food and the non-dairy thing otherwise. :(

Sounds like you're still not feeling that great, so I hope that's over with soon!

Did s/he say anything about taking probiotics to rebuild that good intestinal flora? I've got a slight lactose intolerance issue, but ever since I started taking probiotics I can tolerate a lot more than I can without them. And this is coming from one of the Greek yogurt queens ;)

And POOP on getting stood up. That sucks. I'm sorry :HUGS:

*hugs*

Oatmeal usually makes a solid and not-too-unhealthy breakfast, and you can add a hard-boiled egg if you need the protein boost first thing in the mornings. *hugs* Dairy's hard; so much stuff gets made with it.

I love oatmeal, so that's one good thing :) Now I just don't pour cream over it...

I usually use either cinnamon and sugar or maple syrup. (This is why I said "not-too-unhealthy" rather than "healthy". ;) ) But I also don't like cream; cheese is my dairy must-have.

You could experiment; oatmeal is pretty versatile. I've tried chocolate chips (turned into chocolate oatmeal; oops!), blueberries
(good), grapes (rather weird), dried cranberries (okay, but probably would have been better with fresh), and nuts (walnuts taste good, peanuts are too salty, pecans are also good but better with cinnamon and sugar). I usually put a small piece on a spoonful of oatmeal so I can taste it before I add it to the whole bowl. :)

Congrats on the aged cheese! Definitely progress. :)

I had noticed and missed your lack of a friday update and participation in LJI. Not in a "You're terrible, get on and do it right now!" kind of way, just in a "gosh, that's not like whipchick, hope everything's ok for her" kind of way. And I'm sorry to hear that it's not. :(

Working 23 days straight? Ooof! o_O You poor love.

I'm so glad to be noticed :) I'm struggling I think because I had that sabbatical time (and I'll have more starting next week) and then it was a full dive back into my real job for a month. I'm not sure how I managed LJI last year with working full time, but clearly I have misplaced that coping skill!

Thanks :)

Yeah, I've been thinking recently, how did I ever have time for LJI last time around?? But then I guess the start of every season is like that. I vaguely remember after I'd been eliminated, thinking, "My goodness, I have all this TIME! What do I do with it??" :D

Hope the shows went well for all that effort, but hope you can get back into the swing of writing easily too. :)

Gosh, I didn't know antibiotics could make you dairy intolerant for a bit. I've been dairy intolerant all my life so I feel your pain. Well, ok, not now, but I have. And it's SO hard to avoid completely.

Yeah, it was mega doses, I think that's why - I had IV antibiotics in the hospital and then two prescriptions for ten days!

Oh gosh that sounds like you've been very ill, no wonder you've been feeling so lacking in application.

My partner has just been through a similar level of antibiotics, including the IV in hospital for bronchitis. He's been reeeeelly sick.

You are allowed, he notes unasked, to feel sorry for yourself when bad stuff happens. You are requested to be gentle with yourself as well.

Hugs to you. It is definitely that person's loss, because I think you are pretty awesome! Sometimes it's okay to leave the shoulds and coulds alone and do what you want! Take a break from all of that.

Sometimes it's good to give yourself permission to wallow for a bit. I try to set myself a length of time. ("Okay, I have 24 hours to mope, then I'm going to get on with things.") That way I allow the space for the feeling without letting it take root.
